Have you done a year-end review yet?
No, not the kind you do at your job.
I’m talking about self-review of 2020 to figure out what you’ve learned, what went well, what didn’t go well, and what actually happened (versus what’s in your head). First of all, this practice is great for cultivating self-awareness, but it also helps you create a vision or goals for the next year.
That being said, I’m not a “new year, new you” person and don’t believe January 1st should be the ultimate Monday as I like to call it. You know, the idea that if you don’t start on the first, you’re screwed.
The new year is a great time to shed what’s not working and start fresh.
So, I want to tell you some things I’ve learned from 2020 and how it’s informing my approach to 2021.
✨Don’t cut your own hair unless it’s a MINOR trim. Funny story for another day… DON’T WORRY, I’m getting it fixed.
✨More time freedom does not automatically equal more productivity. It also doesn’t mean you will do all those things you’ve been saying you want to do.
✨Starting a business is so much more possible when you have support and community.
✨ Physical activity is IMPERATIVE for mental health. And it doesn’t have to be crazy intense. Walks do the job.
✨We often accomplish much more than we think we did.
✨Getting laid-off sucks no matter what way you slice it. Even if you hate your job and have been wanting to start your own business. It still turns your world upside down.
✨Ebbs & flows. There were times when shit is great and flowing and other times when you’re super down and stagnant. BOTH ARE NORMAL.
✨Speaking of the ebbs – the best way to get through it is to feel the feelings and work through them. People are SO uncomfortable with negative emotions that they will try cheer you up which ends up making you feel crazy. It’s honestly not helpful.
Do any of these sound familiar to you? What have you learned in 2020? How are you going to show up differently in 2021?
I have lovingly declared this 2021 as the Make Shit Happen year, so…
Let’s make shit happen!
Cheers to the new year and to you becoming more of who you want to be 🥂
